Chapter 73

"Jasper, I still feel a bit unwell. I'm going back to rest.Thank you for today."

Charlotte bowed deeply to Jasper and then left.

Although she knew that after Jasper's confession today, there was no way for them to pretend nothing had happened, she was still very grateful to him from the bottom of her heart.

She didn't regret her straightforward refusal. If she didn't make things clear now, it would only make things worse for both of them.

After leaving the hospital, Charlotte suddenly felt a bit lost.

She didn't want to go back to the villa, but it seemed like she had nowhere else to go.

Charlotte wandered on the street when her phone suddenly rang.

She looked at the caller ID and frowned. It was Serena.

"What's up?" Charlotte found it strange. Wasn't Serena at the hospital taking care of Frederick? Why was she calling her at this time?

"Charlotte, I need to talk to you. Where are you? Let's meet at a coffee shop." Serena got straight to the point.

She didn't dare to stay with the terrifying Frederick any longer, so she pretended to be unwell and slipped out.

"Okay," Charlotte mentioned the name of a coffee shop and hung up decisively. At this moment, she had nowhere else to go anyway, so she might as well see what Serena wanted to say.

After waiting for twenty minutes by the window, Serena finally arrived.

As soon as she walked in, she saw Charlotte and frowned in displeasure."

Why did you choose such a small coffee shop? It's hard to find, and the place is so tiny."

"We're here to talk, not to enjoy coffee." Charlotte retorted directly.

Serena glared at Charlotte and then snapped at the barista. "A vanilla latte, extra milk."

Charlotte paused.

She looked down at the plain milk in her hand and then looked up at Serena with a strange expression.

Charlotte asked, "Aren't you pregnant? Why are you drinking coffee?"

Pregnant women shouldn't consume caffeine which was common knowledge.

Serena's body stiffened. She hadn't thought it through and just ordered based on her preference. She deliberately put on an indifferent look, "I just like it, so what? Some people drink alcohol while pregnant. What's wrong with me having a cup of coffee?" Charlotte knew Serena was deliberately provoking her, so she didn't respond. "I don't know what you're talking about." "Charlotte, stop pretending. I know you're pregnant. Playing dumb won't heIp. We agreed to have an honest talk here, didn't we?"

Hearing this, Charlotte's eyes scanned Serena and finally rested on her bag.

Ignoring Serena's protests, she grabbed her bag, founda phone on the recording screen, and without hesitation, threw it into the vase on the table.

"What are you doing!" Serena watchedI as the water in the vase submerged her phone and screamed.

Charlotte's lips curled into a mocking smile. "Alright, now we can have an open and honest talk."

Serena was furious. There were still some things on that phone that hadn't

been sent out!

'Damn it,all ruined by Charlotte.'

But she couldn't let Charlotte know, so she had to hold it in.

"Charlotte, you're pregnant, right?"

"Yes."

Charlotte answered straightforwardly, "I want to know, how did you find out?" She genuinely wanted to know, as she was exceedingly cautious during her prenatal check-ups, even going so far as to use an alias when registering. Serena replied smoothly, "I asked the maid how long it had been since your last period. After getting the answer, I had someone check all the hospitals in the city and found the surveillance footage of your visit." Serena mentally patted herself on the back. She had thought of many excuses on the way here, but this was the most reasonable one.

"Just because of that?"

Charlotte found it strange but somewhat believable.

After all, the maids managed all the household affairs, and they would have noticed if she hadn't used sanitary pads last month.

Charlotte felt a bit annoyed, thinking she shouldn't have been so careless,

but also a bit relieved that Frederick, being a man, wouldn't be as meticulous as Serena.

Seeing that Charlotte believed her, Serena didn't want to dwell on it.

She asked, "Is the child you're carrying Frederick's?"

"Of course. I don't have a habit of cheating."

"Then why don't you dare tell Frederick? You know how much he wants a child. You've been married for five years without having one. Don't you want to use this child to secure your position?"

Serena asked the question she most wanted to ask.

Charlotte,sitting in her seat,wavered.

She didn't know what Serena's intention was in saying this. 'Is she mocking her?' She and Frederick had been married for years, and the reason she hadn't had a child was that he didn't want her to. At the beginning of their marriage, Frederick had warned her not to get pregnant.

Other socialites and ladies of high society gossiped about her behind her back, claiming that it was because of Serena that Frederick refused to let her get pregnant. They said that Frederick desired a child with Serena, not a child born of her.

Charlotte's eyes grew colder.

"I only want my child. I don't want to be entangled with you anymore. Now, I want a divorce more than Frederick does. If I could, I'd divorce him right now."

"If you want a divorce, why not listen to my suggestion?"

Serena's voice was enticing.

Charlotte frowned. "What suggestion?"

"Tell Frederick you have a man outside. Then, when you can't hide your pregnancy anymore, say the child is someone else's. Someone as proud as Frederick will despise you and divorce you immediately."

Serena became more excited as she spoke, her eyes shining as she looked at Charlotte.

Charlotte couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Serena, do you wish to see me dead, or do you simply think I am as foolish as you?" "You! How dare you insult me!" Charlotte almost laughed in anger. "You know Frederick is proud, yet you 5/6 come up with such a lousy idea? If he finds out I have another man,not only will I die, but my child will too."

She knew Frederick too well. If she betrayed him, he would show no mercy.
