Chapter 50
But what Charlotte didn't know was that this whole mess wás actually connected to her.
Frederick couldn't shake the image of the photo he had just seen. It was just one picture, but it stirred up a storm inside him.
Charlotte had asked him to look into the aphrodisiac perfume, and it was pretty clear that Serena was the one using it.
So,Frederick had his team dig deeper, trying to figure out where Serena got it from.
But instead of finding the source of the perfume, his team stumbled upon a photo.
The date on the photo was from three years ago, and it was definitely Serena. The kicker? She was awake in the picture!
Back then. Serena had a car accident, and he sent her abroad for treatment.
It took five years for her to wake up.
But this photo proved she had already woken up three years ago.
What the heck happened in between?
Why did Serena lie to him?
Frederick looked at Charlotte, feeling all sorts of conflicted.
Charlotte suddenly had it out for Serena, asking him to investigate her.Did she know something?
"Why are you staring at me like that?" Charlotte felt uneasy under his gaze, not sure what he was up to.
"I've got something to take care of; I can't go through with the divorce today. I'll let you know when we can reschedule."
Frederick said, motioning for Charlotte to get out of the car.He needed to find out what Serena was hiding, pronto.
"What?"
Charlotte frowned, now really anxious. "I don't care what urgent thing you have, can't it wait a few more minutes? I'm not getting out, no matter what you say!"
Charlotte clung to the car door, refusing to budge.
Frederick's behavior was totally baffling; even on their way to divorce,he s uddenly wanted to back out.
"Suit yourself."
Seeing she wouldn't get out, Frederick stepped on the gas, and the car sped off.
He suddenly braked at the intersection, the tires screeching on the road, completing a beautiful drift before speeding away.
Charlotte was almost thrown up again.
When she recovered, she realized Frederick was heading towards the Percy Group.
"Hey! Are you out of your mind? Can't we deal with our divorce first?"
She was really tired of these emotionally turbulent days. Frederick ignored her, the gas pedal roaring, the car weaving through traffic.
By the time they arrived at the company, Charlotte was already wilted.
She was already prone to slight motion sickness, and being pregnant made it worse. Now, she felt utterly dizzy and unable to stand up.
Frederick parked the car and noticed Charlotte's pale face.
He scooped her up in his arms and strode into the company.
"Good morning,Mr.Percy."
Everyone greeted him, but their eyes were all on Charlotte.
Charlotte felt like she was sitting on pins and needles, soshe buried her face in Frederick's neck.
The secretary hurried over. "Mr. Percy, didn't you say the morning schedule was canceled? Is there any change?"
Frederick didn't stop, carrying Charlotte in a princess hold, walking into his private elevator, and instructed the secretary, "She's not feeling well, get a doctor right away."
Charlotte was still feeling woozy, but hearing that, she snapped to attention,half-awake with fright.
"No need! I'm just a bit carsick, no need to get a doctor."
Charlotte's reaction was a bit over the top.
The secretary looked at Frederick, unsure of what to do. Even though he respected Charlotte, he had to follow Frederick's orders. Frederick glanced down at Charlotte, seeing she looked a bit better, and decided not to push the doctor thing.
The elevator doors slowly closed, and Charlotte finally breathed a sigh of relief.
More and more people knew she was pregnant, and she was really scared of Frederick finding out.
She thought today would settle things, but now Frederick had thrown another curveball.
When they reached the top floor, Frederick placed her on the sofa to rest, then walked into his office, closing the door behind him.
It wasn't that he didn't trust Charlotte; he just needed to get a handle on the situation first. Even if he wanted to talk to her, he needed all the facts.
Charlotte picked up an orange from the coffee table, not to eat it, but to peel a piece and place it under her nose.
The fresh scent of the orange peel helped ease her nausea a bit.
Her morning sickness was so bad, she thought she needed to come up with a new formula.
If she could create a perfume that alleviates morning sickness and car sickness, it could be the company's next big hit.
Charlotte dialed Taylor's number, sharing her idea. "Charlotte, you're a genius, but isn't it advised that pregnant women avoid using perfume? It could cause issues." Taylor was excited but still had concerns. Charlotte thought Taylor's worries were valid but had confidence in herself."Don't worry, I'll be careful with all the ingredients inthe formula.I'll make a completely harmless perfume, after all, I need to use it myself."
"I trust you, with your assurance, I'm relieved!"
Taylor said, then asked, "I heard from Jasper that you're divorcing Frederick today. How did it go? Should I come pick you up, and we can celebrate properly today?"
Charlotte was puzzled.
She hadn't told anyone about her divorce with Frederick today, so how did Jasper know?
But now, Charlotte felt a bit awkward, not knowing how to explain to Taylor why she didn't get divorced.
Because even she didn't know why Frederick suddenly changed his mind.
"Why aren't you talking?"
Taylor asked again.
Charlotte had to lie, "We got into a car accident on the way, and the divorce isn't resolved yet."
"What? Are you okay? Are you in the hospital now?" Taylor immediately got worried.
Charlotte quickly reassured her, "Don't worry, I'm fine. The car accident wasn't serious, I wasn't hurt, really. I'll handle the car issue first, and we'll talk later." "Where are you? I'll come see you."
"No need, I'm really fine now. I'll come find you after I handle things."
Charlotte said, quickly hanging up the phone.
She felt guilty for lying to Taylor.
Lying never solved anything because one lie always led to many more to cover it up.
