Chapter 44

Frederick was locked out and fuming. He was itching to bust down the door and storm in.

But then he remembered, Anouk was still inside, and Jasper wouldn't dare mess with Charlotte.

Still,he couldn't head to the office today.

Anouk was trying to set up Jasper and Charlotte, and he had to stick around to keep an eye on things.

Serena, who had been eavesdropping upstairs, noticed Frederick was the only one working in the living room. She figured this was her chance.

Serena tiptoed downstairs.

When she was just a few steps from the bottom, she gave a little cough to get Frederick's attention.

Then she purposely missed a step, let out a yelp, and tumbled down the stairs.

Serena was sure she had Frederick's attention and that he'd rush over to catch her.

What she didn't know was that even though Frederick seemed focused on his work, his mind was on Charlotte's room. Frederick didn't even notice Serena coming down.It wasn't until she hit the floor with a thud that Frederick snapped out of it. Frederick frowned, walked over, and lifted Serena onto the sofa with one hand.

His tone was calm but had a hint of annoyance, "How could you be so careless?"

Serena felt like crying.

She wanted to complain about why he didn't catch her, but she changed her mind.

Her eyes welled up, and she looked pitiful. "I'm sorry, I made you worry.It was my fault for being clumsy."

As she spoke, Serena lifted her nightgown, showing her thigh to Frederick.

"Did I break my leg? My ankle and knee hurt so much. Can you rub them for me?"

Serena knew that with Charlotte and Anouk around, Frederick wouldn't do anything with her during the day.

But she still tried to create some alone time with him.

Frederick's eyes lit up as he looked at her leg.

Serena thought he was finally interested.

Just as she was about to place her leg on Frederick's knee,he picked her up. Serena was startled at first.

She wrapped her arms around Frederick's neck and shyly said, "Frederick,it's daytime. Isn't it a bit too eager? I'm not ready yet."

Thinking about what might happen next, Serena regretted not taking a shower before coming downstairs.

But if they showered together, that would be a good option too.

While Serena was lost in her thoughts, Frederick kicked open the door to Charlotte's room.

Frederick rushed in and placed Serena in Jasper's arms.

With a hint of excitement in his eyes, Frederick smiled and said,"She got hurt. Can you take a look at her?"

Frederick's sudden entrance shocked everyone, especially Jasper.

He had just finished treating Anouk and was chatting with Charlotte when Frederick burst in and placed Serena in his arms.

"Did you get hurt? Where did you1 fall from? Besides your leg, do you feel pain anywhere else?"

Jasper had just asked out of routine, but Serena immediately jumped out of his arms.

She wasn't trying to avoid Jasper in front of Frederick, but she couldn't risk him finding out she wasn't actually pregnant. She knew Jasper's medical skills too well.

She had initially wanted Frederick to get Jasper to be her primary doctor to help her fake the pregnancy. But things didn't go as planned. Not only did Frederick not bring Jasper,but she also fou nd out he was friends with Charlotte. And the friend of an enemy is an enemy. Even though she didn't want to be enemies with Jasper, she had to be careful right now.

Charlotte watched Serena's quick movements and realized she was probably up to her usual tricks.

But she couldn't figure out why Serena was avoiding Jasper's examination.

Was Serena hiding something like she was?

"Are you okay now?" Frederick asked, his voice deep and his expression showing some displeasure.

He had never doubted Sérena before, but now it seemed she wasn't as innocent as he thought.

"I'm fine now," Serena forced a smile and said through clenched teeth. "It just hurt a bit when I fell, but my leg is fine."

Jasper didn't hold back and said coldly, "Since you're fine,please leave.I need to continue my treatment."

"Isn't it already done?" Frederick frowned. Anouk was already comfortably asleep.

"I have another patient," Jasper pointed to Charlotte.

Frederick's eyes immediately flashed with coldness, and he said, "No, I don't allow it." "If you don't allow it, I'll tell Anouk you bullied Charlotte. You know the consequences," Jasper's dark side started to show. Frederick looked at Jasper, feeling a sense of crisis for the first time,and said calmly, "Do you really think I'm afraid? I'm just trying to keep my grandmother happy for her health."

Frederick was telling the truth.

He respected and loved Anouk, but that wouldn't become leverage for someone like Jasper.

"Mr. Percy is truly filial."

"Ryan, see the guest out."

Frederick didn't care about the sarcasm in Jasper's words. He just knew he didn't want to see Jasper again.

Jasper packed his things and prepared to leave.

As his friend, Charlotte naturally wanted to see him off, but Frederick grabbed her hand.

"Where are you going?"

"I'm seeing off my friend. Why? Is that not allowed?"

"Ryan will see him off. You go get some rest."

"Mind your own business!"

Charlotte shook his hand off and quickly followed Jasper, "Jasper, let me see you out."

Frederick angrily watched their backs. "Ungrateful woman."Outside the door. Charlotte dismissed Ryan and personally saw Jasper out. There were some things she hadn't had the chance to ask earlier.

"Charlotte, do you have something to say to me?" Jasper could tell she had been hesitant to speak, so he took the initiative to start the conversation.

Charlotte nervously rubbed her hands.

She asked, "In that éxplosion years ago, did everyone in the lab die? Is there really no one left?"

Jasper frowned.

Instead of answering her question, he asked, "Why are you asking this?Did you discover something?"
