Chapter 33
Frederick hadn't gotten this wasted in ages.
He knew he turned into a different person when he was totally hammered.so he usually kept it in check to avoid any drama.
Even with his patchy memory, Frederick could piece together the wild night he and Charlotte had by looking at his bandaged hand and feeling that satisfied, relaxed vibe in his body.
Seeing the dark circles under Charlotte's eyes,he felt a weird pang of pity.
For once, he didn't wake her up to satisfy his own needs.
Frederick carefully pulled his hand away, rolled over, and slipped out of bed without making a sound.
As soon as he was dressed and out the door, Charlotte's eyes snapped open.
She couldn't believe Frederick let her off the hook so easily.
Even with her eyes closed, she could feel his erection pressing against her waist.
Frederick would rather hold back than bother her?
That was a first.
Charlotte let out a sigh of relief and then heard Serena's voice from outside. The mess from last night had aready been cleaned up by the maids, but the faint smell of alcohol still lingered.Hearing the door open, Serena immediately came out of the kitchen.
With what she thought was her most gentle smile, she asked, "You're up?How are you feeling? I made you breakfast. Come have some when you're ready."
Frederick-paused.
He wanted to ask if anything had happened last night, but he held back.
Serena was an open book and couldn't hide anything. If something had gone wrong, she would've said so.
Since she seemed fine, everything must've been okay.
Frederick followed her to the dining table and saw two burnt fried eggs and a bowl of porridge.
He frowned slightly, being picky about his food.
Besides the chefs he approved of, only Charlotte could make food he liked.
He instinctively wanted to refuse, but Serena looked at him with hopeful eyes.
"Did I mess up? I know I'm not great at this. I can redo it. Just give me a minute."
She showed him her hand, which had a mark from being splashed with oil.
Frederick sighed and sat down.
"No need to redo it. I'll eat."
With that, he resolutely picked up a piece of egg. As soon as he put it in his mouth, he almost spat it out.
The thin layer of egg was covered in way too much salt.
He quickly took a sip of the porridge, only to find the rice grains were still hard.
"How is it? Is it good?"
Frederick's expression didn't change, so Serena looked at him expectantly, waiting for praise.
Frederick struggled to swallow the food and couldn't bring himself to compliment her.
Just then, Charlotte walked in.
She poured herself a glass of milk and said with a glance, "So much salt, are you trying to kill Frederick with it?"
"Charlotte, what do you mean by that? I made this for Frederick with care.Even if it's not good, it's my effort. How can you insult me like that?"Serena's tears started flowing instantly.
Charlotte shrugged and said mercilessly, "You used my kitchen to make such a terrible thing. I might even say you have insulted my belongings."
Serena was so angry she wanted to curse, but she saw Frederick still there out of the corner of her eye. She changed her tone and continued to play the victim, "I know you hold a grudge against me. I know I'm the extra one in this house. A useless person like me, what's the point of living? I'Il leave now and not be an eyesore."As she spoke, tears flowed even more. She took off her apron and threw it on the ground, ready to leave.
Frederick immediately stepped forward and grabbed her arm. "Serena, don't make a fuss. Charlotte meant no harm. You don't have to leave."
Serena turned her head stubbornly and questioned Frederick, "So you mean I'm wronging her?"
Frederick didn't answer directly, only saying, "Stop it. Did you forget the doctor's advice?"
Hearing that he was still vaguely defending Charlotte, Serena became even more anxious. Last night, when Frederick and Charlotte slept together, she could still deceive herself that it was Charlotte's seduction while he was drunk. But now that Frederick was awake, his attitude hadn't changed.
Serena, with a sudden thought, immediately crouched down and began to wail in agony. "My stomach hurts, Frederick, is something wrong with our baby?"
Serena curled up on the ground, hiding her expression, but Frederick's face tensed when he heard her mention the baby. "How do you feel? I'll take you to the hospital now."
Serena continued to wail, "I don't know what's wrong. I just suddenly felt a lot of pain. I remember the doctor said I shouldn't get angry." As she spoke, she struggled to get up and angrily pointed at Charlotte. "Charlotte, if anything happens to my baby because of you, I won't let you off." Charlotte, being unjustly accused, also got angry. "Even if something happens to your baby, it's your own fault. If you didn't cause trouble, your baby would be fine."
Serena immediately screamed, "Frederick! Did you hear that? She's cursing my baby."
Seeing Serena's emotional breakdown. Frederick also felt very irritated. He looked at-Charlotte coldly and scolded, "Shut up! Isn't the situation chaotic enough?"
Charlotte was startled by his sudden outburst. Then she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach, as if a knife was twisting inside. The unexpected pain made Charlotte clutch her stomach, frowning and gritting her teeth to keep from crying out.
Serena didn't expect Charlotte to use her trick and immediately accused loudly, "Charlotte, what are you pretending for? Are you trying to gain sympathy? I'm pregnant, you're not. Who are you pretending for?"
Hearing Serena's words, Frederick's initially worried expression gradually turned cold. He hated being deceived. He didn't expect Charlotte to become such a person. He picked Serena up in his arms.
He looked at Charlotte coldly, his tone filled with impatience and disgust,"
Charlotte, stop pretending. You know I hate being lied to the most."
