Chapter 20
"You! You insulted me again!"
Serena shot up, fuming, almost losing it because of Charlotte.
She never thought that Charlotte, who was always so meek according to the records, could be this fierce when throwing insults.
"I didn't insult you."
Charlotte crossed her arms, totally unfazed. "Ms. Brown, don't mess with me again."
Serena's chest heaved with anger. She knew arguing more wouldn't get her anywhere with Charlotte.
She glanced at her phone, seeing it was almost time for Frederick to be out of his meeting. She had to swallow her anger and said to Charlotte, "I'm having dinner with himlater. Isn't it inappropriate for you to be here bothering us?"
Charlotte didn't want to keep arguing either. Her mind was on company matters.
"I'm here to see Frederick for business. I'll leave once I'm done."
But Serena wasn't backing down. She made sure to flaunt the ring on her left hand. "Frederick and I are planning our wedding. Do you think it's appropriate for you to be here? Even if you have no shame, I find it unlucky to see you." Charlotte's face went blank for a moment at the mention of the wedding.
A flash of resentment crossed her eyes. "We haven't even divorced yet,and you're already planning the wedding?"
Serena shot back, "So what? Your divorce is a done deal. If I wanted,I could marry him tomorrow, and Frederick would agree. Are you still hung up on him and don't want a divorce?"
Charlotte's face turned cold, hiding her emotions.
"Of course not. I want a divorce more than he does now. The reason we haven't divorced is that Frederick doesn't want to."
Serena's eyebrows knitted together.
She glared at Charlotte. "Stop talking nonsense. Frederick will marry me as he promised. How could he not want to divorce you?"
Charlotte shrugged.
"What I said is true, but believe it or not."
With that,she stood up.
Charlotte wasn't planning to leave but to wait for Frederick at the conference room door. It was pointless to waste time with Serena here.
Seeing Charlotte stand up, Serena thought she was leaving. Serena said smugly, "Goodbye, we'll notify you of our wedding, but you don't need to attend." "I don't have time for such boring wedding." Charlotte paused but didn't stop and walked into the elevator.
Even if they invited her, she wouldn't go.
After all, she had truly loved Frederick.
How could she attend his wedding with his current wife without any resentment?
If Charlotte showed up at their wedding, she'd just be the clown.
Serena had left Frederick for so many years, but as soon as Serena reappeared, Charlotte was still abandoned.
Serena had everything, but Charlotte had nothing.
As for Frederick, he was a complete mystery to Charlotte.
He clearly loved Serena deeply, divorced her for Serena, and even went against his family, facing possible dangers.
But when she decided to divorce him. Frederick dragged his feet, always using Anouk's health as an excuse.
Was it fun to toy with her?
Frederick told her not to divorce for now while eagerly planning the wedding with Serena. It was simply ridiculous.
Charlotte walked through the Percy Group, and all the employees she passed bowed and greeted her, but she wasn't in the mood to respond. Right now, Charlotte was drowning in sorrow. For her child's sake, she had to sort things out with Frederick quickly. Once the comnpany's crisis was handled, she'd take her child somewhere safe, where no one could find them, and finally get some peace.
Her child was hers alone, and no one could take that away.
When Charlotte arrived at the big conference room on the 16th floor, the meeting had just ended.
The secretary saw Charlotte, nodded, and went into the conference room. After the other executives left, the secretary came out to let her know she could go in.
"Thanks."
Charlotte finally felt a bit better.
The secretary just smiled, gratefuI for Charlotte's earlier help. If it weren't for her, Serena wouldn't have let her off easy.
Charlotte walked into the conference room, and the secretary closed the door behind her.
Frederick closed the laptop in front of him and pushed it aside.
He asked with interest, "Need something from me?"
The moment he saw Charlotte, his dormant heart began to stir.
Charlotte had her hair up, showing off her neck, and this capable and elegant look had a unique allure in Frederick's eyes. He couldn't help but hold back his desire to press Charlotte against the conference table. After sitting down, Charlotte looked at Frederick, ready to state her
purpose, but was startled by his predatory gaze, then glared at him with disgust.
She said harshly, "If you're in heat, go find Serena. After all, she's your fiancée."
Charlotte emphasized the word "fiancée" with sarcasm and disdain.
Frederick immediately frowned.
He didn't get why Charlotte was always so resistant to him now.
Was Charlotte's previous affection for him all fake?
"Charlotte, I said, don't involve Serena in our matters."
Frederick's tone was displeased, "And watch your tone. I don't like you talking like this."
His reproach made Charlotte's blood boil.
At this moment. Charlotte put everything aside and stood up, looking at Frederick."Why should I care if you like it or not? And it was you who involved Serena in our matters. I've agreed to the divorce, so why are you still entangling me? I'd rather divorce now!"
Charlotte's voice was loud, and her tone was sharp. She just wanted to vent her dissatisfaction. "Charlotte!"Frederick's face turned completely dark. "Why are you so eager to divorce me? Is it because of that man?"
The man who picked up Chárlotte at the estate, he couldn't find any info on him, which made him even more irritable.
Charlotte was amused by his anger.
Frederick's skill at slandering her had truly reached new heights.
He was the one who cheated, but it seemed like she was the one at fault?
Since Frederick said so, she didn't need to hide it.
Charlotte's tone was sharp, "The problem is with you. You refuse to divorce me while being with Serena..."
"Not divorcing temporarily is because of Grandma. Do I need to explain this again?"
Before she finished, Frederick interrupted her.
