Chapter 17

"Grandma."

Charlotte suddenly felt a lump in her throat. She knew Anouk was trying to teach her a life lesson.

If Anouk had scolded her a bit, she might have felt better, but Anouk not only didn't blame her but also comforted her, which made her feel even more guilty.

Anouk patted her hand. "Don't cry, it's really not your fault. I'm just getting old, and my leg gave out suddenly, causing me to fall."

Frederick took the opportunity to chime in, "I've been telling you to move to the first floor for years. Why not take this chance to move down?I've already set up a room for you on the first floor."

"Alright, I'll listen to you."

Anouk's eyes dimmed. "Frederick, move my things downstairs, especially your grandfather's items. Make sure nothing gets damaged. I trust you to do it yourself."

Frederick nodded silently and started moving the items out.

After he left, Charlotte asked, "Grandma, since the room downstairs has been ready for a long time, why haven't you moved in?" Anouk's eyes were full of nostalgia. "This room was my and my husband's wedding room. I'vegotten used to it and didn't want to change." Charlotte looked at her and knew that Anouk was reluctant to leave.

Charlotte also advised, "For your safety, it's more convenient to live downstairs. Your wedding room will always be here, and you can come in anytime if you miss Grandpa."

Anouk nodded and then paused.

She then-said, "Charlotte, don't blame me for being naggy. I really hope you can reconsider your marriage with Frederick. You are both good kids, and I don't want to see you two part ways. Your grandfather and I used to argue a lot, but now I only have fond memories of those times."

Charlotte's smile faded a bit.

Charlotte forced a bitter smile and shook her head. "Grandma, it's different.Frederick married me out of obligation, and he had someone else in his heart. That girl had an accident, but now she's recovered, so it's impossible for us to continue our marriage now."

"Serena,I know her."

Anouk's tone turned cold, "Even if she hadn't had the accident, she wouldn't have married into the Percy family. After all these years, it's even more impossible."

Charlotte was surprised that Anouk knew Serena's name.

She asked in confusion, "Why?""There are things Frederick doesn't know, but I must stop them." Anouk's tone was firm and cold when mentioning Serena, but she didn't elaborate, clearly not wanting to talk about it. Charlotte was curious and wanted to ask more, but before she could. Frederick returned.

"Grandma, I've moved Grandpa's things. There are identical living items in the downstairs room. You can move down when your leg heals."

Frederick's tone was gentle; it was rare for him to speak s0 much.

"Alright, I'll listen to you."

Anouk looked at them with satisfaction and said, "I'm tired and want to rest for a while. You two should go back. The doctor will take care of me,so don't worry."

"Okay then."

Charlotte wanted to stay with her a bit longer but didn't want to disturb her rest.

As soon as Charlotte stood up, she felt dizzy and almost fell.

Frederick wanted to help her, but Charlotte avoided him and steadied herself against the wall.

She was fine, just squatted too long, and being pregnant made her a bit weak.

"Charlotte, what's wrong? Frederick, get the doctor to check on her."

Anouk was very concerned about her. After a moment, Charlotte stopped them, "No need to call the doctor.I'm fine," If the doctor came, her pregnancy would be revealed. Since she didn't want Frederick to know from the start, she didn't want him to find out now.

She didn't want to be entangled with Frederick anymore. If he and Anouk knew she was pregnant, the divorce would be even harder.

"Are you sure you're okay?"

Frederick pursed his lips, staring at Charlotte.

He felt Charlotte shouldn't be this weak and thought she might be seeking sympathy.

"I'm fine."

Charlotte spoke coldly, not looking at Frederick but smiling at Anouk.

Then she said, "Grandma, my leg just went numb from squatting. See, I'm really fine."

To prove she was okay, she spun around in place.

Seeing she was fine, Anouk let them go.

When they left the Percy Estate, Charlotte insisted on not taking Frederick's car.

"What are you fussing about now?" Frederick felt a headache."I'm not fussing. I just don't want to be left behind again, so I'll take a cab myself. No need to trouble you." Charlotte said, trying to walk past him. Frederick grabbed her arm and said, "First, you can't get a cab here. Second, you asked me to leave you by the roadside last time. What are you fussing about?"

He couldn't understand her thoughts. If anyone should be angry about last time, shouldn't it be him?

Charlotte sneered, realizing there was no need to argue with Frederick.

Charlotte decided to be blunt. "I didn't want to take care of your mistress in the hospital with you so I let you leave me by the roadside! Frederick, I'm not that cheap!"

"You!"

Frederick felt helpless. He had only said he was going to see Serena in the hospital.

"Just get the divorce done soon. I wish you both happiness in advance!"

Charotte stood her ground, and they were at an impasse.

"The divorce is postponed, at least until Grandma recovers. The doctor told me her heart isn't good. This fall wasn't just a fracture; it also affected her heart. So, no more talkof divorce for now."

Frederick spoke formally, but Charlotte was angry with his words.

The divorce was entirely up to Frederick, with no choice for her. "Whatever. Let me know when we can divorce." Charlotte said, walking away. At the Percy Estate gate, a luxury car was waiting.Frederick wanted to follow, but saw a short-haired man get out of the driver's seat and open the door for Charlotte.

Frederick couldn't see the man's face clearly because it was dark.

He could only vaguely see the man was handsome and seemed very intimate with Charlotte.

Especially Charlotte, who smiled at the man sweetly!

Frederick's face instantly turned cold.

By dawn, he needed to know everything about this man.

'Damn Charlotte, when did she secretly acquaint herself with such a man?
